How to deal with being a gifted student

.Resist the urge to daydream in class, rush through your assignments or become a disruption. If you're bored, let your teacher know and ask for additional or alternative assignments.

.Monitor your stress level. Being gifted means you seem older than you are, and adults may forget your age and expect too much from you. Don't be afraid to say something when you're starting to feel overwhelmed.

.Watch for signs of existential depression. As a gifted student, you're more likely to question the meaning of life and whether your life has a purpose. Don't be surprised if others, even your teachers and parents, can't understand what you're feeling. Instead, do your own research or ask to see a therapist.

.Set your own goals. Don't let yourself be pressured to take up an area of study that doesn't interest you.

.Guard against burnout. Your parents or teachers may want you to spend all your time in intellectual pursuits, but you need some time off. Join a sports team, learn a craft or just go outside and do nothing.

.Make friends among your non-gifted peers. They may not be able to help you with your calculus or chemistry homework, but they can still help you learn valuable skills, even if it's only how to relax and be sociable.
